I am hoping to place an ad (or image) above the menu bar, to the right of the logo. Is this possible?

All code related to header are located in file called header-extensions.php which you can find on theme folder - library - structure. This is where your custom code should be added. I would look to add it somewhere around social media icons. Just search for that code and add yours above or below it.
