Automatic update undos theme changes

Dear Colorlib Team,

I am writing you because I have a severe problem with an automatic update from October 10th or October 11th 2016. From one day to the other all the changes that I made to the Activello theme were removed - concerning the stylesheet, functions.php, etc.

Although I do have a backup of the last version that worked correctly, unfortunately once I try to restore it the automatic update “destroys” it again within a matter of minutes.

However, my main problem is that I do not know how this change to the entire theme is even possible. I checked your latest theme updates and those seem to have happened in March. Regarding any plugins that I am “suspecting” (due to the fact that they released an update on that day), e.g. Google Analytics by MonsterInsights, I just don’t know how they would cause my whole theme to change.

As I have been trying to solve this problem for a week now, I would be very thankful for your help!

My website is: monday-morning.com

Kind regards,
Lena

P.S.: Unfortunately I cannot simply access the backup to change the wp-config.php to deactivate automatic updates at the moment.

Hi Lena,

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

The themes and plugins don’t get updated automatically and until the admin clicks on update button. Only WordPress gets updated automatically.

If you make changes in the theme file then you have to make these changes again after theme updation as changes made in the theme files get lost on theme updation so we recommend to use child theme to change theme functionality and not make any changes in the theme files.

Best Regards,
Movin
