Change Color of Read more button in sparkling theme

I am using the Sparkling theme. The read more buttons are red, and I would prefer to make them purple to match the color of my website. In other sub-forums I have seen (and tried) a variety of “additional css” codes. However, no matter what I add to my css, the read more button remains stubbornly red. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the page but the theme does not seem to be active, could you please check to ensure the theme is updated and activated?

I just checked and the sparkling theme is active. My dashboard tells me that wordpress is up to date.
