How to: Clip background image or put footer at bottom?

I have a page where the content doesn’t quite fill out the page and thus the footer sits in a spot where the background image can be seen below the footer.

I have attached a screenshot of the problem.

I would like to either clip the background such that it ends at the footer on pages like the one in screenshot or move the footer down to the bottom. Is it possible to easily accomplish one of these?

This is the default behavior of the theme and what you are trying to achieve is called sticky footer which you can achieve by using the solutions posted on the following pages.
