How to modify parts of functions.php (and any other files) on child theme?

I had modified them a couple times, and noted which were edited. But I’m wondering if you can edit those on child theme instead?

Last time I modified it, it wasn’t on the child theme (direct core files). Only did it since there was an update for shapely haha…

You can use the following plugin to create a child theme and add the files you want to edit then you can edit those files in the child theme and not the parent theme:
