I am pretty new to wordpress and am trying to make a child theme for my travelify theme. When I do the live preview not all of the attributes of the parent theme show up. I copied the entire style.css into the child theme css file. For example, the widgets are not showing up and I noticed that there are php files for those. Do I need to create in my child theme folder an identical folder for each parent folder?

No you should not do this.
You can create proper child theme of Travelify theme as described on the following page.
