Replace search bar on homepage with social menu

Hi,

Thanks for your help in the last question I had.

I would like to know if it is possible to replace the search bar on the home page with the social menu that usually appears on the right side bar.

I’ve removed the right side bar on the home page and have hid the search bar on the home page at the moment.

I read another post about aligning the social icons next to the main menu, the code provided didn’t work for me, however, I would prefer for it to be on the right corner where the nav bar is, if possible.

Kind regards,
Vanty

Hi Vanty,

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

You can try achieving this by using the attached custom child theme of Activello theme that contains some custom code.

Best Regards,
Movin

Hi Movin,

Thank you for creating this code for me! but I’m still learning and super unfamiliar with php.

Could you tell me how and where to implement the custom code?

After downloading, there are 3 files, do I implement all 3, or just the functions and header php?

At the moment, the search bar is hidden with css code. Do I need to remove that in order for this to work?

Kind regards,
Vanty

The shared zip file is child theme of Activello theme so you have to install and activate it on your site just like any other WordPress theme as described here How to Install WordPress Themes - SiteGround Tutorials

Yes please remove it.

Hi Movin

I am also trying to do this, I have installed the child theme plug in that you mentioned above, and used the step by step link from Site Ground, but it isn’t allowing me to add the 3 separate files as a whole to the theme upload.

it said: Unpacking the package…

The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature.

What is the best step for me to take?

Thank you!

@blisspaige18 You can extract the child theme from the shared zip file and install it manually as described on the following pages.

https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes#Adding_New_Themes_Manually_.28FTP.29

Thanks Movin!

It works perfectly!

You are most welcome here

Hi Movin

Thanks for that useful video, I’ve managed to unzip and upload the theme onto my account, thank you!
Stupidly though I didn’t realise that the child theme would have the side bar on the left hand side (my bad I’m sorry)

Is there anyway that you have a child theme that keeps the social icons at the top right replacing the search bar, but keeps the sidebar on the right hand side, and that also has larger social icons and menu lettering at the top?

Kind regards

@blisspaige18 To help us keep support thread separates could you please create your own thread for your question here https://colorlibsupport.com/c/activello/ instead of replying on others thread as it makes the thread messy and hard to read.

If you want to you can also add reference of this thread in your newly created thread.

We would be more than happy to help you on your new thread.
