Fix mobile usability issues found on soundmanwithpa.ca/

Should Fix:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 3 blocking script resources and 4 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

http://soundmanwithpa.ca/…s/jquery/jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.2.1

Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:

http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu&ver=4.1.1

Reduce server response time
In our test, your server responded in 1.1 seconds. There are many factors that can slow down your server response time. Please read our recommendations to learn how you can monitor and measure where your server is spending the most time.

Leverage browser caching
Setting an expiry date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk rather than over the network.
Leverage browser caching for the following cacheable resources:

We haven’t done any modification for theme and we could score much much higher if we would decide to do so but these metrics are pointless. The main thing that you should care about is your hosting. Make sure to avoid shared hosting when possible because you can’t expect fast performance when millions or other websites are hosted on the same server. That’s why there are VPS and fully managed hosting providers such as WPEngine.

Other things you can do to improve your website performance:

  1. Enable and configure W3 Total Cache (Ok I see that you are using WP-Super Cache but you haven’t fully configured it). There are hundreds of options for this plugin and properly configuring it will help to make your website 3-5 times faster but it will take weeks to find the right configuration for your website.
  2. Avoid using external scripts when possible - Twitter and Facebook in your case. They look small from inside but are very slow to load and are heavy too.

so “these metrics are pointless” why does Google send this? 99% of sites are shared — so i should just not be concerned about Google – you have no plans to change your code?

no one is going to lose facebook or twitter

Check our demo website to see how well it performs with completely default settings. With minification we could score 100 but I want to keep it this way, so users can see what they can expect from this theme by default with no customizations or optimizations.

Get your website to 89/100 just like our theme demo and then I can further help with optimizations such as minification, render blocking javascripts, CSS and other things.

Hi,

We really like the Travelify theme. Over the last 10 days have been optimizing the site installing W3 Total Cache and Autoptimize. PageSpeed report 93/100 for Desktop and 79/100 for Mobile.

All good, however there is one item left to deal with and is flagged as a render-blocking resource: “http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu&ver=4.2.2”.

The question is how can this be removed or managed without breaking or changing the site? The main area I would like to improve is the mobile rating. Would dealing the above help in the mobile rating?

Based on previous comments, I had a look at the demo Travelify and ran it through PageSpeed. I noticed you’ve included JetPack and you are using a CDN, is that how you are getting the high speed rating? My standard install was much lower, in the 30s. You can see the site at villaravello.it.

Any thought would be appreciated.

Thanks for your great work, PJ
