Complete newb here - I really want to make shapely button one (the blue one that doesnt change) match button 2 (transparent with white border and white font flipping to solid white with black font).

yes, this is possible, we did it several times, you can find the answer on this forum also i can help you with the custom CSS, please post URL of the website once you publish it
I have thoroughly searched and none of the suggestions in this forum changed button one. They all changed button two.
Is there a way to share the website while not published?

If it’s on your localhost you cant do this, however, you can eave this task as is and once you publish website just come back and post URL of the website
