Hello,
I have the “recent posts” widget on my Shapely homepage with “show excerpts” selected.
How can I get ellipses to show at the cut off part of the post so it’s clearer there is more to read (other than just the button it defaults with)?
Hope you are having a good day and thank you for your question
Where exactly is this happening? can you show me page?
also, have you tried to use read more tag in the post itself?
Here’s the page: https://ciadr.com/why/
I just added the more tag to the most recent post and while it’s now cutting the post at a good spot, it removed the ‘read more’ button that had been there. The ‘read more’ button is visible in the oldest post’s excerpt but it cuts off mid sentence. I want an ellipses (…) to show where it cuts off so that readers can more easily tell it’s not just a poorly written post.
The same thing happens if I use wordpress’s “excerpt” option (the read more button goes away).
It’s also viewable on our homepage (ciadr.com) where I set up the “recent posts” widget from the shapely theme and checked the box “show excerpts”
Ok, I added CSS code to add the “…” like I wanted it.
Any reason why using the read more tag or excerpt function with wordpress would get rid of the theme’s “read more” button? I’d still love to have both.
“Any reason why using the read more tag or excerpt function with wordpress would get rid of the theme’s “read more” button?” - when you add read more tag buttons must be hidden then, this is how it works
