In order to apply correctly put (e.g Istagram) https://www.instagram.com/username/ in link field. Make sure you use https.
Thanks webcolor, this fixed the issue i was having with getting instagram to show up.
Another tip: In addition to https, also ensure you have no capitals in the main site address, this is case sensitive!
