Change the background color of blocks

Dear sirs,

In developing my webpage using the Sparkling theme, I am trying to change (unsuccessfuly) the background color of the blocks (text blocks or image block) for them to match the color of the background of each static page. Right now, for example, if the static page color is blue, the text or image blocks appear with a white background or border.
