This may be nothing to do with your theme but recently, when I try to edit posts/pages some of the functions and shortcodes do not seem to work. For example I can not hyper link text anymore and when I change the page/post format, it looks all the same. Am I missing something?

This definitely sounds like problem with Easy Bootstrap Shortcodes. Lately some function stopped working on our demo website as well and i had to disable this plugin and create everything using HTML.
About post formats, Sparkling theme does support only regular and Aside post format and others while can be enabled doesn’t look different from one another as there aren’t any code that takes care of it. It’s not a bug or anything it just theme specific.
