How does frontpage slider work?

Tried to follow §5 in Sparkling Theme Documentation - Colorlib without luck - can anyone help me with a detailed guide on how to get it to work - im pretty new at this-

I see guys that you are having the same problem. In most cases featured images are not used properly, so no slider is displayed.

Also make sure that you are using Posts as only Posts work for slider. If no posts are present on your blog slider settings will be blank and are not going to work.
