How to add meta descriptions for Google search results

Hi there,
How can I add a Meta Description for Google search results. In html it is possible to add a Meta Description in html head of the page. But how to do this with customizer on a shapeley homepage?

Can’t find a way for that. Is this only possible with the Yoast plugin?
