How to decrease length Post Blurb

I would like for each of the posts boxes on my home page to only show the first 40 characters, instead of what it defaults to. Is there a way to adjust this? If so how and where?

You can try achieving this by using the attached custom child theme of Pinbin theme that contains some custom code.
