Is there a way to have the large parallax section show a designated series of images rather than one single one? How can I go about achieving this in the Shapely theme?

Do you want to display the image slider?
If yes then you can try achieving this by using the widget in the slider provided by following plugins.

I actually want to try to keep the parallax effect with the large image, but want to be able to select images to fade (rather than slide) from one to the other after brief intervals. For example, in your Shapely front page demo, I’d like to be able to have that first sea image fade periodically from one image to another but keep the parallax effect if I should scroll the page.
